The 2025 IFSC World Championships in Sport Climbing will take place in Seoul. On April 1st, during the 2023 IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) General Assembly held in Singapore, the Korea Alpine Federation (President: Son Joong-ho) announced its successful bid for the 2025 event.
In the assembly, South Korea and China, which had both passed the initial screening, faced off in the final round for the hosting rights. However, due to the excellent evaluations received for various international events held in Seoul, China decided to support Korea and withdrew its bid, leading to a unanimous approval for Seoul to host the 2025 IFSC World Championships in Sport Climbing.
Scheduled for September 2025, the Sport Climbing World Championships is held every two years. This will be the third time the event is hosted in Asia, following Shanghai, China in 2009 and Hachioji, Japan in 2019.
Additionally, the Korea Alpine Federation has successfully hosted two international events, the Sport Climbing World Cup and the Asian Championships, in Seoul since last year. This year, they plan to hold the 2023 IFSC Seoul Sport Climbing World Cup from April 28 to 30, and the World Youth Championships in August.
The federation is committed to enhancing the performance of national team athletes and strengthening international competitiveness through the hosting of international events. They are also focused on training international sports personnel, including referees and coaches. Furthermore, they are working to foster a climbing boom, particularly among the MZ generation, ensuring that many enthusiasts can enjoy top-level competitions.
