2024


  • August: Dispatch of athletes Lee Do-hyun, Seo Chae-hyun, and Shin Eun-cheol to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics (Sport Climbing).
  • February: Sport Climbing officially adopted as an event in the National Youth Sports Festival (Mountain Sports).


2023


  • October: At the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games (Sport Climbing), Lee Do-hyun won a silver medal, Seo Chae-hyun won a silver medal, and the men's and women's speed relay teams both won bronze medals.
  • May: Ice Climbing officially adopted as an event in the Winter Sports Festival (Mountain Sports).
  • August: The 2023 IFSC Seoul Youth Sport Climbing Championships were held.
  • April: The 2023 IFSC Seoul Sport Climbing World Cup was held.
  • January: The Cheongsong Ice Climbing World Cup was held (the first event since COVID-19).


2022


  • October: The Seoul International Ultra Trail Running Competition (Seoul 100K) was held.
  • October: The 2022 IFSC Seoul Sport Climbing Asian Championships were held.
  • May: The 2022 IFSC Seoul Sport Climbing World Cup was held.
  • April: The 60th anniversary ceremony of the Korea Alpine Federation was held.


2021


  • The 21st President, Son Joong-ho, took office.


2020


  • The completion of a dedicated training facility for Sport Climbing at the Jincheon Athletes' Village.


2019


  • General Um Hong-gil was selected as the "2019 Sports Hero of Korea."


2018


  • The National Sports Festival adopted Sport Climbing as a demonstration event for the women's general category.
  • Gold, silver, and bronze medals were won in Sport Climbing at the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.


2016


  • July 26: The 20th President, Kim Jong-gil, took office.
  • March 15: The merger general meeting of the Korea Alpine Federation and the National Sports Council was held.
  • February: Ice Climbing was adopted as a demonstration event in the National Winter Sports Festival.
  • January: The Cheongsong Ice Climbing World Cup was held (in Cheongsong, Gyeongbuk, held for the next five years).


2015


  • October: The International Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) and the Asian Mountaineering Federation (UAAA) held a general meeting in Seoul.
  • May: Relief supplies and donations were sent to Nepal after the earthquake.


2013


  • October: Sport Climbing was officially adopted as an event in the National Sports Festival for the men's general category.
  • January: The 19th President, Lee In-jeong, took office.
  • January: The Cheongsong Ice Climbing World Cup (L, S) was held, along with the World Championships (L).


2012


  • November: The Korea Alpine Ski Association was founded.
  • October: The Mokpo Sport Climbing World Cup was held (Mokpo, Jeonnam).
  • October: The 50-year history of the Korea Alpine Federation was published.
  • April 23: The 50th anniversary ceremony of the Korea Alpine Federation was held.


2011


  • January: The Cheongsong Ice Climbing World Cup was held (in Cheongsong, Gyeongbuk, held for the next five years).


2010


  • August: The Sport Climbing World Cup was held (in Chuncheon).


2009


  • November: The Korea Mountain Rescue Association was founded.
  • January: The Mountaineering Education Center was established.


2008


  • February: The 1st Asian Cup Mountain Skiing Competition was held.


2004


  • March: The 1st Gangwon Province Governor's Cup National Mountain Skiing Competition was held (Yongpyong Resort).


2003


  • October: The 84th National Sports Festival adopted "Mountain" as a demonstration event (to be a demonstration event in 2009).


2002


  • April: The standard textbook for national mountaineering schools, "Mountaineering," was published.


2001


  • July-August: The 1st Korean Youth Expedition Team was dispatched (to seven regions around the world).


2000


  • March: The annual report on domestic and international mountain activities, "Mountain Yearbook," was launched.
  • January-November: An expedition team was dispatched to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents.


1999


  • February: The Korea Sports Council approved the Korea Alpine Federation as a member organization.


1998


  • October: President Kim Sang-hyun was elected as the President of the Asian Mountaineering Federation.
  • June: The first issue of the newsletter "Korean Alpinism" was published.


1996


  • October: The expedition team reached the summit of Lingbo Gangri.
  • October: The joint expedition team to Chongmo Gangri and Lingbo Gangri, with six members, reached the summit of Chongmo Gangri.


1994


  • November: The founding general meeting of the Asian Mountaineering Federation (UAAA) was held.


1993


  • May: The Korean Women's Everest Expedition team reached the summit with three members.


1992


  • December: The 1st Asian Sport Climbing Championships were held.


1991


  • November: The 1st National Unity Climbing Competition was held.
  • October: The Korean expedition team to Shishapangma and Cho Oyu reached the summit with two members on Shishapangma.


1990


  • November: The 1st National Climbing Competition, sponsored by the Korea Alpine Federation, was held.
  • March: The 1st International Mountain Equipment Exhibition was held.


1989


  • June: The 1st National Mountain Rescue Team joint training was held.


1988


  • September: The Korean Everest and Lhotse Expedition team, with ten members, reached the summit of Everest three times and Lhotse.


1987


  • May: The 1st Korea Mountaineers Leaders Training Course was held.


1986


  • August: The Korean K2 Expedition team reached the summit with three members.
  • February: The Korea Sports Council approved the Korea Alpine Federation as a semi-member organization.


1982


  • September: The English-language newsletter "KOREAN ALPINISM" was published.


1981


  • May: The 1st National Climbing Competition was held.


1978


  • September: The 1st Mountain Day was celebrated.
  • July: The Korean Polar Exploration Team was dispatched for Arctic exploration (July 21 - October 11).
  • July: The newsletter "Mountaineers" was launched.


1977


  • September: The Everest Expedition team, with member Go Sang-don, became the first Korean to reach the summit of Everest.


1971


  • August: The 1st Academic Research was conducted.
  • March: The expedition team to Lhotse (8,400m) was dispatched, marking the Korea Alpine Federation's first Himalayan expedition.


1970


  • June: The Korea Alpine Federation joined the International Mountaineering Federation (UIAA).


1969


  • November: The 1st Mountaineering Leaders Seminar was held.


1968


  • August: The 1st Summer Mountain School was held.
  • July: The commitment to unification began with the start of the 3,000-ri national trek.


1967


  • December: The 1st President's National Mountaineering Competition was held.


1966


  • December: The Ministry of Education granted incorporation status.


1963


  • June: Registered as a cultural organization with the Seoul City Education Committee by the Ministry of Education.


1962


  • April: The founding general meeting of the Korea Alpine Federation was held (with the first president, Dr. Lee Soong-nyung).
